A Commitment to Care for Elderly Women
As part of our ongoing community support work, we carried out an Elderly Women Food Support Outreach Programme in Bakin Kogi community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria.
The outreach was held in collaboration with the Village Head, Da Dr. Luka Pagyang (JP), who supported the mobilisation of beneficiaries and provided the community palace as a central meeting point for coordination and registration.
A total of 40 elderly women participated in the programme, including both widowed and non-widowed members of the community who were identified based on age and need. Essential household food supplies and daily living support items were distributed to the beneficiaries as part of the outreach.
A Mission Rooted in Care and Compassion
At the heart of this outreach is a simple but powerful value: care for elderly women.
In many rural communities, elderly women represent strength, memory, and continuity. Yet, they are also among the most overlooked in terms of consistent social support. Many live quietly with limited access to basic necessities, relying on fragile support systems within their communities.
This programme was carried out as an intentional act of care, love, and dignity for elderly women. It reflects a growing commitment to ensure that elderly women are not only supported materially, but also valued, respected, and remembered.
Extending Love Through Practical Support
A total of 40 elderly women between the ages of 68 and 91 years participated in this outreach, including both widowed and non-widowed women within the community.
Essential household support items were distributed as a practical expression of care — aimed at easing daily burdens and supporting their wellbeing.
Beyond the distribution itself, the outreach created a space of warmth, connection, and recognition. It was a reminder that care is not only what is given, but also how people are seen and valued.
A deeply touching moment of the outreach was the presence of the oldest woman in the community, 91-year-old Yop Musa.
Her presence represented a living history of the community and embodied resilience, grace, and longevity. She was warmly included in the gathering, symbolising the essence of this initiative: love and care for elderly women without exception.
Volunteerism and Shared Responsibility of Care
The outreach was made possible through the dedication of volunteers from Plateau State and strong community collaboration. Their commitment reflects a shared responsibility to care for elderly women and ensure that no one is left behind in rural communities.
A Continuing Commitment
This outreach is part of a broader vision: to build a consistent culture of care for elderly women in underserved communities.
It is a reminder that meaningful impact begins with simple acts of compassion — showing up, listening, and responding to real human needs with dignity and love. With continued support and partnership, more elderly women across rural communities can be reached, supported, and embraced within this circle of care.
Photo & Video Documentation
The images and videos from this outreach reflect authentic field documentation captured during the programme in a remote rural community setting. They were taken on-site during active engagement with beneficiaries and community leaders, preserving the natural setting and atmosphere in which the programme took place.
